Incite Love

I woke up at 2am and couldn’t get back to sleep. My mind kept turning over and over. What can one person do?

I have anger, and I know that anyone (especially a woman) who acts out of anger get dismissed.

I also know that Love is stronger than Fear – and there’s a whole lot of Fear running our country right now.

So what to do?

A new day

Here is my CALL TO ACTION – for me and for all of you:

We’ve let the ones who hate take control. It’s time to take it back.

Step out of your comfort zone, and out of the zone around your comfort zone.

Do so in LOVE.

We don`t need to `go low` – AND there is no need for civility for those who hurt others with no remorse.

Bring compassion and love back into the atmosphere of this country.

We have people in power that are creating laws and enforcing old laws in new ways. Laws and policies created by politicians have no requirement to be morally right, just, or good. Someone might follow the law and damn their soul (literally or figuratively); someone else might break the law and find grace in the Love of God. So how do you know what is morally sound? Is it harmful or beneficial? Does it break God`s law to Not Kill? Does it ignore the Golden Rule (found in ALL major religions) to treat others as we ourselves want to be treated? Does it make your gut say YUCK?

I trust and have faith that love will win in the end, that good will triumph over evil, that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice.

I also know that someone has to do the work.

I would much rather have Love Win in the next few months rather than 50 years from now, so if I can help it along, I`m going to.

What can I do? What can you do? Here are just a few examples.

  • Call out people who worry about crimes committed by immigrants and don’t show any concern about school shootings.
  •  Call out so-called Christians who turn their backs on everything Jesus taught – especially if they are in the government.
  • Call out  family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who are immigrants themselves, yet who encourage or turn a blind eye to the harsh treatment being shown to even those who seek asylum lawfully.
  •  Push back / speak up when you see others being treated as less-than. Take a step back so someone else who is more marginalized can be heard or seen.
  • Do the hard self-educating work on White Privilege / Unearned Advantage. Push back where you see (or feel in yourself!) white supremacy. (This is true also for Male Privilege, Wealth Privilege, Health Privilege, etc. We have a lot of inequality in our society.)

Love is not passive. Love is not smooshy. Love is strong, brave, fierce. Love is the mother that lifts a car off her toddler. Love is the Sandy Hook parent that continues to fight for safety in schools for years and years. Love is the rape victim that withstands all criticism and judgment in coming forward, in hope that their story will keep someone else safe.

Love is Jesus on the cross, Moses leading a movement regardless of his stutter, Siddharta Gautama (Buddha) leaving his palace.

Incite Love is a call to action and a challenge.

Change the country without allowing hate and violence to lead the way.
